I was able to make a short visit to the delightful Tranquilo Bay Lodge just before leading a New Jersey Audubon tour in Costa Rica.  Tranquilo Bay Lodge is located on Bastimentos Island, near Bocas del Toro, Panama.  This is a lightly developed region along the Caribbean coast, just east of the border between Panama and Costa Rica, and most of the island is part of a National Park.  It’s a small lodge with wonderful rooms, great food, warm and welcoming hosts, and terrific naturalist guides.  I went to explore the possibilities for birding, and quickly realized that this is a great base for birding trips.  The lodge offers much more than birding, however, with fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, and much more.  I was very impressed, and hope to return soon.  Forgive me if this gallery of photos makes you want to visit Tranquilo Bay!
